Discorder Magazine
Illustration Feature – March/April 2022 Edition
As a second time contributor to the magazine, Rhi Forsyth (formerly Maen Illustrates) had the opportunity to work with local Vancouver writer and poet Elle McCarthy to create an illustration for her piece The Body's Poetics of Space in Discorder's Discothrash column. Elle and Rhi worked together to bring the concept to life—they wanted to convey the piece's message around environmental care and connection, so they chose to showcase the juxtaposition between a city and a girl holding the Earth; the same Earth in which she is apart of.

Discorder Magazine
Illustration Feature – November 2020 Edition
When Rhi Forsyth (formerly Maen Illustrates) received the brief to create illustrations for an article featuring local cake creator Spool Oven, she knew immediately that she wanted to illustrate something as fun and wacky as the cakes themselves. She came up with the idea of a cake picnic – where the animals, nature, and picnic supplies all resembled the colourful and eccentric creations.
The first illustration shows three animal friends heading to a picnic, the second a dog decorating a huge life-sized cake, and the third a cat showing off their cool new cake.

BCIT Link Magazine
Page layout design and illustrator feature
Walk into the downtown campus of the British Columbia Institute of Technology and you will be greeted by two swivelling doors, a beautiful winding staircase, and a four tiered stand of BCIT’s Link Magazine. This complimentary student-lead magazine can be found throughout the school each month; it features news, interviews, student opportunities, and more. Attending BCIT herself, for their 6 month full-time Graphic Design program, Rhi Forsyth (formerly Maen Illustrates) decided to reach out to Link Magazine with the hope of sharing her new skills.

Rhi Forsyth (formerly Maen Illustrates) attended the Graphic Design program at BCIT from Autumn 2019 to Spring 2020. This 6 month, full-time, fast tracked program teaches students both visual and strategic design skills. The course offers digital software education, encourages entrepreneurial thinking, and prioritizes strategy for business.

After reaching out to the magazine, Rhi heard back several weeks later with the opportunity to be the April 2020 Artist Feature. As she was a graphic design student at the time, the team at Link Magazine also offered her the chance to put her new skills to practise by designing the pages in which she would be featured. Excited for the challenge, Rhi created four page layouts in InDesign, wrote her own artist bio, and contributed six original illustrations. Once ready for publication, the Link Magazine team expanded her feature to six pages, adding two additional pages, each featuring a full page illustration.
Due to COVID-19, the April 2020 Edition was published solely online.
The full edition can be viewed on Link Magazine’s website here.
